Career Criminal Arrested in Rape of Bronx Teacher

BRONX- Cops arrested a career criminal for the rooftop rape of a Bronx teacher in her apartment building. The suspect has a long record including previous arrests for rape as well as strangulation.

The NYPD today announced the arrest of 30-year-old Lynneke Burris in connection with yesterday’s sexual assault on a Bronx teacher in her building in Concourse Village.

Burris has previous arrests for rape, robbery, assault, predatory sexual assault and strangulation.

Investigators said the attack occurred at around 1:45 am on Thursday at the victim’s apartment building on Park Avenue and 161st Street in Concourse Village. The 23-year-old woman returned to the building after a date with her boyfriend. As she entered the elevator a man entered the car right behind her.

Once inside the elevator, cops say the man threw the woman in a chokehold until she was unconscious. The teacher regained consciousness as her attacker pushed her into a stairwell and onto the building’s roof. There he proceeded to rape her.

After the sexual assault, the attacker removed the victim’s cash and ATM card and forced her to give him the PIN number. He then proceeded to steal $500 from the victim’s account.

The NYPD was able to pull the surveillance video from inside the elevator. Armed with the stills of the suspect, an eagle-eyed Bronx cop spotted Burris who matched the photo. The officer arrested Burris on 164th Street in Concourse Village.

Members of the NYPD say Burris has 21 prior arrests most interesting is his arrest for rape in 2015. He was also arrested for multiple assaults, predatory sexual assault and strangulation.

Investigators would not say whether the previous rape and or sexual assault arrests matched the same pattern as the teacher assault. Or if Burris is a suspect in any other sexual assaults in the area.
