Help Feed the Needy This Holiday Season

City Harvest Holds Holiday Food Drive

NEW YORK– With the holiday season quickly approaching, City Harvest, NYC’s largest food rescue organization, is asking all New Yorkers to step up and take care of one another.

There are several ways to help City Harvest make sure that all of our neighbors have enough food during the holidays and throughout the year.

Anyone can participate in or attend the following initiatives:

Daily News Food Drive (Through January 18): Help City Harvest feed families in need all across our city by participating in the 36th annual Daily News Food Drive – the city’s largest annual food drive. Our goal is to collect 1 million pounds of nutritious, non-perishable food, which we will deliver to hundreds of soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs across the five boroughs.

Repack To Give Back (November 9 – 16): Hundreds of volunteers will come together at City Harvest’s Food Rescue Facility for its annual Repack to Give Back event, taking place the week before Thanksgiving, to pack 6,000 holiday meal boxes with fresh produce and non-perishable food – enough to help 24,000 New Yorkers put holiday meals on their tables.

Volunteer with City Harvest: City Harvest was founded by a group of volunteers in 1982, and to this day, volunteers are central to all aspects of our work. 10,000 New Yorkers donate their time annually. This holiday season, give back to your community by volunteering with us. Please visit to learn more.

Donate: Make a year-end gift to City Harvest today. Every dollar donated helps feed four New Yorkers for a day.

City Harvest also has two ongoing Mobile Markets happening regularly in the Bronx. Through their Mobile Markets, City Harvest delivers fresh fruits and vegetables, free of charge, to thousands of New Yorkers each month. Community members gather in farmers’ market settings, where they receive fresh produce and participate in cooking demonstrations to learn how to make healthy meals in two different Bronx locations: at the Melrose Classic Center and at St. Mary’s Park. The Melrose Mobile Markets are held at 286 E 156th Street, at the Classic Center every 2nd Saturday & 4th Wednesday of each month from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. The St. Mary’s Mobile Markets are held in the parking lot adjacent to 595 Trinity Avenue every 2nd Saturday & 4th Tuesday of each month from 9:30 am – 11:30 am.
